Spring Illness Prevention Tips and Ways to Protect Your Health This Spring

The country is wrapping up flu season. But that doesn’t mean that we are totally free of all the respiratory “bugs”. Now is the time when seasonal allergies, colds, asthma flare-ups, and respiratory infections tend to rear their heads. Although temperatures tend to fluctuate wildly this time of year, many of us are now heading back outside. So now is the perfect time to read up on spring illness prevention tips and management.

Unfortunately, many of these ailments have common symptoms—runny noses, sneezing, sore throats, coughs, and fatigue—and may require a visit to your physician to know for sure what you are dealing with. Always call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room if you experience life-threatening symptoms like shortness of breath or a high fever. But there are some things you can do to help out your immune system and to keep from getting sick in the first place.

Spring Illness Prevention Tips:

  • Wash your hands properly and often.
  • Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Check pollen counts in your area and stay indoors when counts are especially high.

Other tips include getting adequate sleep, staying up to date on your vaccines, and to take in plenty of fluids. It’s a good idea to check your home ventilation system and change any filters if needed. We welcome the new growth and the warmer temperatures of spring, but unfortunately so do some illnesses.
